ACIM T-28.III The Agreement to Join

October 11, 2011

We are spiritually asleep, and we are dreaming our human life. Our dream is in our minds, for it is comprised of all our thoughts and ideas about our experiences in this existence we call “life.” In this life we appear to be separate because we have agreed to see ourselves as separate. If you and I are really One, we cannot appear separate unless we agree that we are separate. If one of us does not see the other as separate, and we really are One, we cannot be separate even if one of us still believes we are separate. When we both believe we are separate, we support each other’s dream and we thus appear separate.

Our concern right now is not the end of the dream, for that is beyond our mind’s comprehension at this moment. Our concern is merely with this moment, with the acceptance of the miracle, with the acceptance of the idea we dreamed our dream of separation and we can allow another dream to take its place. Or concern is to accept the new dream Spirit gives us as we open ourselves to Spirit’s guidance. Our concern is to support this new dream, to support this change; refraining from adding our own dreams of fear to the new one Spirit has given us. Our support of this miracle, the new dream is what will strengthen it and us.

In Reality, in Truth, we are One, we are whole, we are innocent, and we are as God created us, unchangeable and inseparable. But we have mistakenly perceived ourselves differently. We have descended the ladder the idea of separation led us down. Now Spirit gives us new dreams of ascending that ladder again. Each step reawakens us a bit more. The gap between you and I is no gap at all, but is an idea we agreed to in our dreams of separation. We believed those dreams and so the gap appears real and sometimes very wide and bottomless. It is our wish to keep apart that makes this gap appear real, that makes it appear so wide.

A wish to join is a shift in thought that reverses our direction, that corrects our mistake. It is an idea that accepts the miracle of healing and the new dream Spirit offers us. It is the opening, the little willingness that allows Spirit’s dream to fill our mind, healing it from the sickness of the idea of separation. Love swiftly flows in, filling the void left by our mistaken ideas we have let go of. And each time we let go of some mistaken idea and Spirit replace it, love flows in again to fill the void. And the old dream is nothing more than a ship passing in the night, leaving no trace of the illusion of separation behind. Let Spirit gently guide the ascent to the reawakening of our true mind, the Mind of God. This is Heaven, our home where we belong.

ACIM T-28.II Reversing Effect and Cause

October 4, 2011

If we can accept that we are the dreamer of the life we think we see as our life, we can perceive at least this: that we have caused this dream and can accept another dream just as well in its place. This is the place where change can occur. This is the willingness that gives Spirit the opportunity to show us something different, something new, something better, something that changes the way we look at and perceive our lives. No matter what the content of our dream, it must be realized that it is each of us that dreams the dreaming we don’t like. It is our perception, what we think of all our experiences that comprises our dream that we mistake for our lives.

What we think about our lives is, for each of us, the effect that we have caused by our mistaken idea that we are not dreaming and the dream is real. This turns the world on its head, and upside down world. We move along in our dream state, not realizing that we are spiritually asleep and thus believing the dream we dreamed. We easily understand that when we dream while physically asleep, the dream is not real. But we have hidden from our awareness that the waking life we are living is a dream we are having while spiritually asleep. Just like the sleeping dreams we have, this waking dream seems so very vivid and real. So while spiritually asleep we think it is real!

We often feel ourselves the victim of our dreams. This is the effect that cannot be, for the idea of victim is born of dreaming. An effect (dream) cannot cause an effect Victim). And, a dream cannot cause anyone to be a victim or anything else real. Realizing that we are the dreamer and the dream can be changed is the shift in thought, the change of mind that is the miracle. This miracle opens the door to a different interpretation of the world we see. It opens the door to a new perception. It opens the door to Spirit to show us a new way of perceiving and interpreting our experiences. It frees us from the bonds of our rigid ideas and thinking. It is our salvation.

Allow the miracle of the knowing we are the dreamer and the dream can be changed enter your mind. Spirit is there waiting to awaken us just the perfect way for each of us. The new dream well then lead us to another dream and another, each with a heightened sense of awakening and the awareness of who we really are. Let the miracle in and let your mind be changed. And know the truth about who you really are, One with God and all creation.

ACIM T-28.I The Present Memory

September 27, 2011

Be quiet for just a moment. Be still for just a moment. In that moment all that is past or future falls away and we are in the present moment, the now. Spirit has been vigilant in watching and waiting for this moment. This is the moment when what is real and true surfaces. In this moment the miracle comes, for our minds open to the remembrance of the Divine within, to God. In this moment do we experience the Ahhh, the knowing we are home once again. It brings peace to our soul and our mind. It reminds us that we are now and have always been One with God. And as we relax into this stillness, our miracle is extended to all. In that instant our miracle, our healing, becomes everyone’s healing, everyone’s miracle.

All is truly sacred in this instant. It is the holy instant. Our thinking un-tilts, it rights itself without our having to do anything but be still. What a gift this is. What a blessing this is. Enjoy this fully. Drink it in and let it permeate your whole being. Feel it in your bones. This is who we really are, always have been, and always will be. Ion this moment we have glimpsed the correction of our perceiving. We have seen the face of Christ shining from everyone we see. The innocence and beauty of the real world eclipses all we thought we had ever seen, but perceived incorrectly.

Here is our present memory. Here is the memory of God, the Divine Self we are. Our memories of the past hold nothing in the presence of the memory of the Divine. All fear is gone. All thoughts of separateness are gone. Fear’s purpose was to distract us from the remembrance of God, but in this quiet moment we see there was nothing to fear, ever. The illusion of fear, the illusion of separation is gone in the stillness of the present moment. The stillness itself speaks so confidently, so boldly that no fear remains to distract us from what we have remembered. Relax into the stillness and let it wash over you. It is nothing but the extension of God, sacred and innocent. It is Heaven.

Have no fear. God never leaves us stranded; glimpsing a reality we cannot get to. All we fear is false, for we are nothing less than an extension of God, inseparable from God, and One with God for eternity. Simply glimpse eternity and we are there. The awareness of who we really are returns to our mind and thus extends to the mind of all creation. Be still, just for a moment and listen. It will not fail you, Stillness speaks. And it speaks of Divine love and peace. Be still for just a moment and know we are God.

ACIM T-28.I The Present Memory

September 20, 2011

In a separated state of mind we cannot recognize the Truth about ourselves and who we really are. Separation and Oneness are incongruous. The two ideas cannot coexist in the mind. Therefore we are either in a state of separated mind or a state of Oneness mind. It is our choice which state of mind we are in at this or any moment. So at any given moment we choose whether to conceal from ourselves and others the Truth about ourselves, or not. What a mad insane choice this is.

The Truth about us is that we are always One with God and all Creation. That is unchangeable. But we do choose which state of mind we are in at any moment. And we often choose separation. How we think is evidence of what state or mind is in. Do we experience fear, hate, anger, guilt, anxiousness, loneliness, or frustration? These are all experiences of a mind’s state of separation. Yet within us is the capacity to experience peace, love, compassion, and joy.

Within us is the knowledge of who we really are, buried deep behind all the barriers we have placed between our state of mind and the awareness of our true Self. Spirit holds deep within us the awareness of the Truth about ourselves. Yet we are so invested in our concept of our past that we fail to see that Truth shining right before our very eyes. We tend to see our past experiences as the cause of our lives and so find ourselves helpless to do anything about where we are now. But Spirit holds for us the true cause of our state of mind, the thoughts we can change about our past and begin to see that our past is the effect rather than the cause of our state of mind.

Spirit holds for us the ancient memory of a true Cause, and unchangeable Cause deep within our true being and the Mind of God of which we are One. In a moment when we allow ourselves to become still and quiet Spirit rises to our awareness and gives us a new idea, a new thought, that resonates with the Truth in us. We find peace and joy washing through us and the remembering of who we really are. All we have carried with us begins to drop away and new meaning comes to that which we allow Spirit to give us a new meaning. All this is part of Spirit’s leading us into the miracle, the healing, the correction of our perception guided by the Divine within all of us. Be still for a moment. In the stillness allow Spirit to show us a /new perception, a new vision. And let the awareness of who we really are wash over and through you. In this moment Heaven is.

ACIM T-28.I The Present Memory

September 13, 2011

At this very moment we have all we need. We have no need to learn, do, or remedy anything. We are complete as a whole creation of God. Nothing can ever change a creation of God, so we remain as God created us. What is needed now is unlearning, undoing, remembering. We have done so much and learned so much that has blocked our minds from the awareness of who we really are, from the awareness that we are a holy creation of God, innocent and unchangeable as our true state of being. We have just focused on a mistaken idea that we could be anything not a part of the Divine.

We have used memory to focus on our ideas about the past. We carry with us in our mind every thought and idea about every experience and feeling we have ever had. We have convinced ourselves that those ideas about our past are true; we actually believe them. All our thoughts and ideas we believe so true are really perceptions. Rather than actual truth, they are merely perceptions; our best attempt to understand our experiences outside the Mind of God where we have convinced ourselves we are. Memory is our perception of our past that we carry with us into the present and believe to be the absolute truth. But what we remember, we need to recognize what it is; merely a perception made up by our minds and believed to be true.

But memory has a higher purpose, as does perception and all else we have made up. Spirit has been given to us to help us see differently, to see more clearly, to perceive more correctly. As we let Spirit guide our mind we find Sprit giving us new ideas and thoughts about our memories. They become learning tools used by Spirit to unlearn what we have learned that is untrue. We can allow Spirit to show us what is real and true ad what is an illusion or a mistaken thought separated form God and our own Divine state of being. The miracle we experience is the healing of our thoughts and ideas, the recognition of what is true and real and the willingness to let go of thoughts that are not real. We already have all knowledge there is for we are One with God. Our mistake is the belief in the thought that we are not One with God.

Our mistaken thoughts and ideas take many forms. Yet, the one fix, the one correction the Holy Spirit holds ready for us to accept is applicable to every form if incorrect thought or perception we may hold. We may need to let Spirit apply this lesson in many circumstances until we finally realize that there is only one error in our thinking. Spirit is patient with us and continues to apply the correction to each error until we begin to understand that is there is only one mistake. So we unlearn ad unlearn and unlearn until we finally realize what we must unlearn and accept that healing and miracle in its entirety. Because we are attached to our memory of the past, we have the opportunity now to remember now, to remember the present, for the present is where have always been, but for a while did not realize it or recognize it. There is no time like now to remember the now. Let it be so.

ACIM T-27.VIII The “Hero” of the Dream

September 6, 2011

We continue to experience suffering, pain, guilt. We feel like a victim of the world we live in. Or perhaps we feel helpless to control our life and the world closest to us. We have confused the concepts of cause and effect. We have misunderstood the causes of our suffering. We think the world causes our suffering or, put another way, that something outside of us causes our suffering. The truth is that our suffering is caused within us, not by any malicious act, but by our mistaken idea of what the world is and what it can do. The world we see is comprised of all we think and have ever thought about what we experience. These thoughts come from within. When we begin to understand that we create our own thoughts, we begin to understand that our suffering is caused by what we are thinking.

This idea may seem strange, or perhaps totally insane. How could I possibly be responsible for causing my own suffering? Yet we are because it is nothing more that a mistaken idea. The Course teaches us that the life and world we think we see is mostly about what we think about it, both what is happening now and all that has ever happened in our lives. The Course explains that it is like a dream we have when we are sleeping. We understand that a dream while we are sleeping is not real because it is all in our mind. The Course teaches us that we are spiritually asleep and have forgotten that we went to sleep. So, we think what we see and experience is real and happening to us because we are not waking up from the dream we call reality.

The Holy Spirit will, if we allow it, teach us in this dream state the truth that our suffering, our pain, is just a dream. Spirit, as our parents may have, gently wakes us from this dream (or nightmare), little by little, to the truth that our dreaming is the cause of our suffering, not what seems so real in the dream. Spirit reminds us that we are and always have been whole, that we are the holy Child of God. In this awakening we gradually begin to see as Spirit sees, truly. We begin to understand that our dreaming is the cause of all we thought was outside of us and doing to us.

The Course puts it this way: Into eternity, where all is one, there crept a tiny, mad idea (dream), at which we remembered (decided) not to laugh. In our forgetting (it was a dream) did the thought (dream) become a serious idea, and possible of both accomplishment and real effects. Together (with Spirit), we can laugh them both (the dream and its effects) away. T-27.VIII.6. The life we think we are in is actually in us because it is mostly comprised of our thoughts and ideas about it we believe. Letting Spirit teach us about this dream frees us from the prison of the dream we made up. Realizing that the cause is the dream and nothing more, frees us for all eternity. Let it be so.

ACIM T-27.VII The Dreamer of the Dream

August 30, 2011

We have come to the point where we are willing to accept that we are the dreamers of the world we think we see. That world seems so real to us that we don’t understand how that dream could be anything less than real, but we are wiling to be open to a new vision, or at least a new dream. We are beginning to understand how everything we think is real is more about our thoughts about the world than what the world actually is. We have learned that we can change our thoughts, at least to some degree, about our world and thus see it a bit differently.

This little change in our attitude and willingness gives Spirit the opening it needs to give us a gentler dream, a dream that lessens our suffering, that allows us to let go of our attachment to the way we have always thought and dreamed. We have opened a door just a little. We may be wary and ready to slam the door closed at any instant, but we have opened it just a little. And therefore we have opened our minds just a little to the Voice for God, the voice that calls and reminds us of an ancient song that remains with us still, yet has called unheard as we went blindly on our separate way.

The Voice calls gently. Spirit gives us a new dream in which we see ourselves differently. We see each other differently. Now we release the dwelling on our suffering we were so focused on, for we now see that it was our dwelling on it that caused the suffering rather than whatever else we thought was causing it. We are freed from our suffering. And we also begin to realize that the ones we encounter are calling for love rather than attacking us. We begin to dream a gentler dream and see the world in a gentler, more loving way. We are again freed from our old dream and find a calmer mind within us in that new dream.

It is not our own individual doing that frees us from our dream. It is our willingness to let Spirit bring us the new gentler dream. If we were aware of the gentler dream, we certainly would have chosen it for ourselves, but we are so preoccupied with our dwelling on our thoughts of suffering that we become unaware of what Spirit offers us. As we move further and further in an unaware state of mind, we need to let lo of our own individual way and let Spirit replace our unawareness with something more aware, yet believable to us. God provides the perfect steps for us to take. Take them, each a step at a time. Dream the gentler dream. And know who you really are.

ACIM T-27.VII The Dreamer of the Dream

August 23, 2011

We may be surprised to learn that we have been mistaken about the purpose of the world we see. We do not understand it and thus we perceive the world incorrectly. This may seem impossible to us. Doesn’t the world just happen? It may seem that the world is out of our control and that the events of the world happen to us. Though events happen and may be out of our direct control, what we think about each event and experience is usually more powerful that the events themselves. The world is said to be an illusion not because it isn’t real, but because what we think about it isn’t concrete and absolutely true.

No two people will describe an event exactly the same. Their description will be colored by all of their thoughts and beliefs about their past experiences. Our thoughts are never concrete, even though we may believe them to be absolute truth about what we experience. The thoughts and ideas we hold dear and become attached to witness to our idea of “reality.” These ideas show us the world we believe to be real. Our reality is never as much about the events we experience as it is about our feelings, thoughts, and beliefs about the world we think we see!

When we perceive the world not understanding its purpose, we experience a wide variety of thoughts that we rationalize as true. We may experience painful thoughts that cause us suffering, or the dwelling on our painful thoughts. When we begin to realize that our thoughts and beliefs affect how we see the happenings of the world, we begin to understand that we can think differently; we can change our mind and our thoughts and thus see the world differently. The world we see gives us a way to learn that our thoughts are not absolute and that we can change our thoughts to see a more correct way of looking at and understanding our world.

We begin to understand that our thoughts show us how we are thinking; they witness to the health of our thought process. As we learn and correct our thoughts, we experience the love, peace, and joy of Spirit dwelling within us. It is a connection to the Divine that we really are. It has never been apart form our being, but we have chosen to see and experience something else we rationalized from our usual way of thinking. As we learn to recognize our feelings of suffering as a witness to our state of mind, we have the choice to change our state of mind and recognize the Divine within us. There is never any accusation about why we never realized this before, just the rush of the blessing that washes over us as we return our awareness to the truth about who we really are. Let it be so.

ACIM T-27.VII The Dreamer of the Dream

August 16, 2011

We experience suffering when we dwell on all the world has done to injure us. Or when we dwell on all others have done to hurt us. This is the way we think the world works, and so we think it is real. But way of thinking is like a dream where the dreamer experiences what it thinks it sees and, not understanding its source, thinks that it is all happening to the dreamer from outside of the dreamer’s self. So it must be happening to the dreamer. In this way we think we are suffering at the hands of each other. In this way, the causes of our suffering take on many different forms, each appearing very different and requiring different solutions with varying degrees of difficulty and complexity. This can be overwhelming to us.

What is there was a way to escape all this suffering we experience? What if it were simple and complete? Would we want it? Would we be willing to do it? Though the problems seem and appear to be many and varied, there is only one problem. If we are willing to accept a different way of perceiving the world and each other, we can escape this suffering we are experiencing. We actually release ourselves from the suffering we are dwelling on.

There is a simple solution to the problem. The simple solution has always been there, but we have kept it obscured by clouds of complication. What better way to keep anyone distracted from anything than by making everything seem complicated? Then we are so consumed in the distraction of thoughts going in many different directions that we fail to see the simple answer right in front of us. The truth is the solution lies within us. The source of our perceived suffering actually lies within us rather than outside of us. The source of our suffering is not from outside, what others are doing to hurt or attack us. The source is actually our dwelling on the idea that our suffering is coming from others and not from our mistaken way of perceiving the world. Once we are willing to consider that the problem is the way we are perceiving the world, there is only one solution; correct the way we are perceiving the world.

Once the problem is seen clearly, it is recognized as absurd and without reason. This may seem a big leap for our minds that have become so used to seeing everything as outside of us. So God has given us a helper, a guide to help us make this shift in thinking. The Holy Spirit is within each and every one of us offering continuous guidance if we are willing to listen and accept it. Each one that we encounter in our life is there with the perfect way to see correctly as we

Let Spirit guide us in that moment and situation. Spirit blesses each of us with the peace, love and joy of Heaven as we let ourselves be guided to live our lives from the inside out rather than from the outside in. In this change does our world change from upside down to right side up, from insanity to sanity. Let it be so.

ACIM T-27.VI The Witnesses To Sin

August 9, 2011

Miracles are given to take the place of our suffering and our fear. It matters not what form our suffering or our fear take. The miracle takes its place. A miracle can take many forms, that which is best suited to the situation of that it takes the place of. But a miracle is a constant, it has only one purpose and that is to take the place of whatever mistaken though is keeping us distracted for the awareness of who we are.

We have been discussing witnesses to sin or separation. The thoughts we have are the witnesses to the state of mind we are currently in. If we are thinking in a state of separation, we will experience some idea or though that reinforces the idea that we are separate. But if we allow Spirit to show us a different idea, we experience a miracle, the coming of an idea that witnesses to the truth about who we really are. The experience of our life is determined by the way we think, by the ideas we identify ourselves with. We do this because we are so used to it. It’s the way we taught to think about ourselves and build our identity in our mind. And we believe it wholly.

The problem with this way of thinking is that we have not taken the time to listen and look to Spirit for the truth about ourselves and each other. We have looked at all the symbols and witnesses that we have made up and believed them. We have believed suffering and fear and believed that those ideas are the truth about who we are. And then we don’t question them. The One who has the perfect miracle for us, wherever we are, is right there with us, waiting for us to take a step aside and allow ourselves to consider the idea it brings in the miracle. The miracle is the perfect replacement for whatever witness we believed. The miracle is a new witness, indeed that that witnesses to our true being, to the truth about who we really are.

Take a moment, step aside. Let g of your attachment to the witnesses to fear and suffering in you life. Spirit has a new witness that gently takes the place of the old witnesses. It shows us a new idea, a change of thought that attests to the truth of who we really are. The witness recognizes in us the One Child of God, the whole being God created and has never lost sight of. The holy instant comes through us in that moment and we are healed. And as we are healed, that healing extends to the whole world. God’s love, joy, and peace shine from our face and bathes the world in the light and love of God. All that is false, all that is illusion, all fear and suffering fade away in that moment. Believe what the miracle brings, and be healed in that instant. It is God’s will and so it is also yours.
