ACIM T.24.in & I Specialness as a Substitute for Love

May 28, 2019

The purpose of the Course is the attainment and maintaining the state of peace in our minds. The state of peace is attained through the remembrance of who we really are and recognizing we are all joined in Oneness.  We are truly whole, complete, sinless, limitless and free. In this state of peace the mind is quiet, and the condition in which our Source is remembered is attained. It is not necessary to tell Source what to do, for Source will not fail. Source already is wherever Source can enter. There is nothing we need to do but simply recognize what already is.

To learn this course requires willingness to question every value that you hold. Not one can be kept hidden and obscure but it will jeopardize your learning. No belief is neutral. Every one has the power to dictate each decision you make. For a decision is a conclusion based on everything that you believe. It is the outcome of belief, and follows it as surely as does suffering follow guilt and freedom sinlessness. There is no substitute for peace. What the One creates has no alternative. The truth arises from what the One knows. And your decisions come from your beliefs as certainly as all creation rose in the One’s Mind because of what the One knows.   T-24.in.2:1-10

Be willing to hold nothing back from questioning. Set every belief, every conviction on the holy altar. What is real and true will remain. And what is not real or true will fade into nothingness. Remember, “What I believe I will see.”

Section I

The Course tells us Love is all there is. Nothing else is real. To love is to extend, to connect, to share, and all this completely. Love has no reservation. Love is unconditional. Love is peaceful. Love is joyful. One cannot partially love. One either loves wholly or doesn’t love at all. There is no middle ground.  When we love wholly, we find peace. Yet, when we love partially or conditionally, we find conflict.

Love is extension. To withhold the smallest gift is not to know love’s purpose. Love offers everything forever. Hold back but one belief, one offering, and love is gone, because you asked a substitute to take its place. And now must war, the substitute for peace, come with the one alternative that you can choose for love. Your choosing it has given it all the reality it seems to have.   T-24.I.1:1-6

The alternative to love is specialness. Once we make someone or something “special”, we have chosen the alternative to love. This choice then opts also for the alternative to peace – conflict. No one in their right mind would choose other than love or peace, but our choice of specialness betrays our right mind. Choosing specialness opts for differences and division. It opts for judgement and degrees of specialness. Our true nature is divine and is about loving wholly and being wholly at peace. Leave behind specialness. It holds no power other than the power to distract us from love and peace. At any moment we can relinquish our attraction to and belief in specialness – separation. Turn your eyes and ears to Spirit, where the awareness or love and peace are offered. This is Heaven. This is Home. Join with each other in Oneness.

ACIM T-24.VII The Meeting Place

August 24, 2010

We are eternally whole and One.  There is no separation.  We are as much One with God as God is One with us and we are One with each other.  Nothing can change this.  Nothing can take away from this.  God’s creation is all-encompassing and all-encompassed.  There is no other truth.  And perception has no purpose in reality and truth.

But perception does have a purpose for each of us who have mistaken ourselves as anything other than who we really are.  And all of us who think we are a body that feels, sees, hears, and touches are using the means of perception.  We use perception every moment of every day.  Though perception has no purpose in Reality, it has a Divine purpose in our journey back to the awareness of who we really are.  Learning and understanding how we perceive is crucial to understanding how to correct our perception and see with the eyes of Spirit.

We must keep in mind that all perception is still not reality.  It is never more than a means.  But we tend to use perception to tell us that what we believe is real.  Perception is the outward picture of what we want to be true.  Understanding what perception is is the first step to returning to the awareness of who we really are.  Perception is a means by which we evaluate all we experience and see.  Once we realize we can change how we perceive, we can begin to move our perception closer to Truth and Reality.  Though it will never take us all the way to Truth, it will bring us close enough for us to reach out and grasp God who will take the last step to wholeness for us.

Perception is not bound to specialness.  Only our choice to make it so makes it appear so.  We can choose to perceive differences, or we can choose to perceive Oneness.  At any moment we can choose how we perceive.  We can choose what we will use to perceive.  Will we choose to use what the body sees, hears, and feels?  Or will we allow the Spirit to show us with Spirit eyes and ears how to perceive and see the wholeness within each other?  It’s our choice.  Understand perception and choose well the means to return to the awareness of who we really are and have always been.

ACIM T-24.VII The Meeting Place

August 17, 2010

What God creates is holy, for God creates like God’s Self.  God’s creation cannot be anything but holy, because God creates in holiness.  And since we are God’s creation, we are holy.  In a like manner, since we are holy, our creations are holy.  This is true as long as we are creating from a place, a mind, of holiness and awareness of holiness.  Anything made not from holiness is illusion, being made from separate thoughts and ideas.  We must be in a state of holiness to create like God and ourselves.

We have the choice of where we meet our brother or sister.  We can meet them at the place we made, built on illusory thoughts and ideas.  Or we can meet them in a holy place created with the thoughts of God.  The Thoughts of God are our thoughts, too, for we are co-creators with God.  When we co-create with God, we cannot miss what is real.  When we allow our mind to be one with God’s Mind, we are One.  We are in holiness, we see with the eyes of Spirit.  We see with eyes that see Truth and nothing else.  We’ve let go of the limited sight we had in separation, for it showed us what we had made with our illusory ideas and thoughts.  It’s no wonder it never served us well or lasted.  It was not made from the place of holiness where we meet the Divine in everything.

The place of holiness is right here wherever we are.  It is evident in anything we see, evident in anything we do, and evident in everyone we meet and every experience we have.  All we need do is let go of our need to see and create by ourselves.  We have the infinite, eternal resource of the Divine within and around us wherever we are.  Spirit asks us to open our Spirit eyes and see with the Mind of God and Create as God co-creates with us.  The joy of Heaven comes shining through in the blazing light of Truth.  How could we have ever thought we could make anything apart from our Creator?  It’s our natural way to create like ourselves, holy and pure, peaceful and joyous.

It is time to join the Divine that we are already One with and Create as we live in Heaven on this earth.  Let go and celebrate the Oneness we all are with all of God’s Creation.  We are nothing less than co-creators with God.  See

ACIM T-24.VII The Meeting Place

August 10, 2010

There is a place where we meet God, where we connect with the Divine that is wholly within us and all around us.  It is often in unexpected places, unexpected times, and unexpected circumstances.  Our part in recognizing these meeting places is being open to actually being aware of God’s creation in everything we see, do, and experience.  God’s Divinity is inseparable from us.  Divinity is who we are, whether or not we realize it.

Every moment of every day is an opportunity to recognize our Divinity.  The meeting place is the world.  The meeting place is each one we encounter.  For in each encounter with another we have the opportunity to see the Oneness of who we are reflected in that One, for they are also the Oneness of who we all are.  Because we are all One, the One whole creation of God, we see that Oneness in all we see when we let ourselves see reality.

Though we tend to try to see ourselves as separate and better or worse than another, we are all really the One Child of God, One with the Parent, never having ever been apart.  Each one we meet is the opportunity to see the wholeness of who they really are, the Divinity of their true nature.  When we allow ourselves to see with the eyes of Spirit, we see the truth about another and in turn see the truth about ourselves and who we truly are.  We recognize our own Divine Source in the brother or sister that has come our way in this very moment to show us who we really are.

What a beautiful sight it is.  All we need do is relax, let go of our ideas we have become so invested in and let Spirit light our way and our sight.  All that God creates is beautiful, whole, and good.  And so it is that we are beautiful and whole and good.  Be willing, and Spirit will show us the truth.

ACIM T-24.VI Salvation from Fear

August 3, 2010

We often feel unhappy that we are subject to the laws of the world.  What if we aren’t?  Wild we be glad if these laws weren’t for us?  The laws we think we exist under in this world often seem to limit us, to imprison us.  We feel stuck in our circumstances.  We yearn to be free of them, but see no other way.  So we go on and “live with it.”  And we continue to be unhappy, dissatisfied, and alone.

What we don’t realize is that we have another choice!  We don’t realize we have made up the world we see and all the “laws” we think govern it.  What we see as limiting us is made up in our minds.  It is a product of what we think about all we have experienced in our life.  As each of us forms our own opinions and perceptions, we support each other in our various perceived realities.  These are our best guesses at reality from a place where we don’t see with the clarity of Oneness, with the eyes of Spirit.  When we use our separated minds to perceive our world, we perceive illusion.  But when we allow the Vision of Spirit to show us reality, we see with all the wisdom of God.

We have pursued our specialness with vigor and determination.  We have been so determined to define the world we live in that we have blocked every entry from intrusion and shut out every ray of light that could show us the Truth about ourselves.  We are so involved in rationalizing our self-created idea of ourselves that we left no room for anyone else.  We are so caught up in the maintaining of this illusion that we completely miss the beauty of ourselves that is already within us.  We miss what God has created and continuously sees within us, the beauty and holiness of who we really are.

If we just relaxed and pursued another goal, another way of understanding ourselves, we would find it takes much less effort to see ourselves as God sees us.  We spend so much effort disguising what we see in each other as something other than reality, we miss the reality of who we really arte shining back at us in each other.  Isaiah said “My yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  The way of God is filled with ease and grace.  Each of us is a manifestation of God, complete in our Oneness and unity.  It is Truth as God created us.  We can be nothing other than God’s perfect creation.  But the way we perceive ourselves and each other can obliterate our true nature from our awareness, leaving us to make up our own world.  Let go of the way you see the world yourself and let Spirit show you the truth of who you really are.  And if you can’t see it in yourself, see it in another, for another is joined with you in Oneness and will shine your true self back to you in all its holy glory.  Just make the choice to see differently today.

We always choose what we see in each other.  We may not realize that what we see is our choice, but it is our choice every time we encounter each other.  As we choose how we see each other we either limit or set free.  We either withhold love or extend love.  We either attack or forgive.  We either see Truth or illusion.  As we look upon each other we will see another as they really are or something they are not.

Before we even get to what we choose to see, we must choose what we want to see in each other.  Our desire is really what drives our motivation in what we want to see.  As we choose separation, we see according to our desire to be separate.  We make specialness of one kind or another and project it on each other, masking the reality of who they really are.  We are often afraid to see another as they really are because we are afraid of what we will see.  It is inevitable that we will see what we really think about ourselves reflected back to us!  And that doesn’t jive with the image we have made up about ourselves.

Are we willing to see another as they truly are?  Are we willing to see another in their holiness?  Such a transformation comes in the willingness to see with Spirit’s eyes.  The Christ in them shines brightly through.  The God within them shines so bright we wonder why we missed it before.  Forgiveness for all their mistaken thoughts floods our mind, lifting the veil from our eyes, allowing us to see clearly.  And reflecting back to us is the true beauty of ourselves we have forgotten about.  We have freed each other as we celebrate the holiness we truly are.

God’s blessings can no longer be withheld from either of you as you abandon your unwillingness.  Throw it away.  Let it drop into the vanishing mists of illusions gone. We celebrate with each other the wholeness of our One Self.  We welcome the peace of eternity within us.  We find all we ever needed and will ever need in the presence of God that dwells within us.  How could we have been so blind?  How could we have chosen to want anything but Truth?  It has always been our choice.  Let yourself be willing to make the choice to see holiness for both of you.  It’s easier than you might think when you just choose and let go, letting the transformation wash through you.  Choose holiness.

What is the purpose of the world we see?  Perhaps if we understand the purpose of the world we will begin to see the truth about who we really are.  Perhaps we will begin to understand how we are not so much a victim of the world.  Our mind may say we are a victim of the world we see, but it is our misunderstanding of the world we see that makes it seem like we are a victim.  The Course tells us we cannot be victims of the world we see.  It is impossible for any facet of creation by God to be anything less than whole.  God created us whole and One with God, so we can be nothing contrary to our reality.

The purpose of the world is nothing less than the healing of God’s One Child.  The one purpose of the world is the return to the full complete awareness of each and every one of us that we are God’s One Child, One with God.  We are whole, complete, and sinless.  The world is the collection of experiences and thoughts that come to our mind to remind us who we really are.  Each experience is an opportunity for each of us to see with Spirit’s eyes rather than the body’s eyes.  Each encounter is an opportunity to see each one’s true nature as God created them rather than something untrue.  As we see each one as they really are, we see our true nature, we see ourselves as we really are and as God created us.

The world’s seeming laws of separation, lack, and victimization are nothing more than illusion.  Yet our belief in those laws hold us captive, hold us limited, and hold us from the freedom of the awareness of who we really are.  Every moment of every hour and day we have the opportunity to make a choice whether to see with Spirit’s eyes or with unseeing eyes of separation.  Each relationship that comes our way is an opportunity to make a correct choice in how we see each other.  Are we willing to step away from the busy thoughts we become so accustomed to and that we choose to believe as true and let the Holy Spirit show us what is real in the stillness of the present moment?

As we allow ourselves to see beyond the specialness we made up in our relationships to the Truth therein, we free each other from the laws of separation, lack and victimization and find the truth about ourselves.  We begin to understand how each experience in our lives, no matter what its form, has the higher purpose of returning us to the awareness of who we really are.  Can you imagine a world where all see each other in the Truth of who they really are?  Yes it is possible.  That is the purpose the Holy Spirit gives the world we made up from our belief in our thoughts about our experiences.  Take a step back.  Allow the stillness of Spirit to come over you.  You will begin to see the real purpose of the world.  It is the discovery of our peace, innocence, and freedom.  We are One in the bond of God’s unconditional love.

Before each one’s holiness the world is still.  Its gentle peace settles in and around us.  We find ourselves in a blessing so complete that conflict is impossible.  Not a trace of darkness remains to haunt us.  We are complete.  We see this completeness in our brother, our sister, and they are the healing from our sense sacrifice and fear that all we have will scatter to the wind and turn to dust.

As we look at our brother and sister and see them as they truly are we are filled with the stillness we see in them.  We are filled with and surrounded by a gentle peace.  We experience a joy like we have never known before.  We are blessed with an assurance so complete our fears are scattered to the winds.  We have found the God we have been looking for all along.  We have seen the completeness and Oneness of creation in another and thus see ourselves in that Oneness of creation.  We now know we are inseparable from God.  We realize it is impossible to see another and not see God and ourselves.

Without any one of us, there would be a lack in God, a Heaven incomplete, a universe not reality.  The indivisible would be made divided.  God’s will would not be so.  But God’s will is Oneness, wholeness and it is always so.  Nothing can prevail against the Will of God for it is unchangeable and unfailing.  God made creation whole.  And nothing real can threaten what is God’s creation.  And how could anything unreal be of any threat to reality?

There is nothing to fear.  All of reality is of God.  As we look at each other we see all that God has created and we know it is all goof and holy.  The One we see is showing us our salvation.  That One is showing us the beauty, the holiness, the peacefulness that we are and have always been.  Let it wash over and through you.  Recognize your Oneness in the One God has sent you to show you.  There you see the Christ in them, and the Christ in you.  There is no more fear for it has vanished in the assurance of peace.  Here is our Salvation

ACIM T-24.V The Christ in You

July 6, 2010

What we seek is a source of joy as we conceive it.  What we wish for is true for us.  It is also impossible to wish for something and not have faith that it is true.  What do we wish for?  This is an important question we must ask ourselves.  Are we wishing for what is real or are we wishing for specialness, something of illusion?  We must look at this closely.  If we are placing our wishes in specialness, we may find little glimmers of joy or peace, but it will fade away just as quickly as it appears.  Wishing makes the appearance of real.  Faith in illusion will bring us nothing more than illusion, for it is not really real.

The illusion of specialness may seem very attractive.  It may seem to be so exquisite in its form.  It may seem to bring us joy and peace.  It may appear to be that quiet retreat into stillness.  But if it is not based in reality, in God and the Oneness of creation, it will not last.  It will be a fleeting experience that will eventually bring us to the suffering that characterizes an illusion based way of thinking.  And where do our brothers ad sisters fit into this world of specialness?  They probably fall short of our expectations of them.  How could they do anything but fall short?  We have set up the illusion so they MUST fall short.  They, and we as a result, are destined to let each other down as a result of our attachment to the illusion we made up.

Within us is the answer to this dilemma.  The Christ with us is always there.  It holds the real essence of our being.  It wills only truth and what is real for us.  It remains still in it peacefulness within us.  It knows who we really are.  And it waits for us to reach out and take its hand.  Once we let that Christ within begin to guide us, we can learn to see with the eyes of Spirit.  We can begin to listen with the ears of Spirit.  We can reach out with the hand of Spirit and take each others’ hand and walk as One, knowing that we are One with God and all Creation.

How beautiful is this walk we walk as One.  How peaceful it is.  How lovely the sound of our footsteps and the path of forgiveness.  Forgiveness is the letting go of our attachment to all that is specialness or illusion.  Spirit gives us the tools and the help we need to use them on our journey.  We are never alone in this walk.  We always have the Christ within which we see in each other as we walk our journey.  There will be challenges along the way, but the Christ Spirit within will guide us through them all if we will just place our faith in it to show us the way.  We are all in this together, not because we are all here, but because we are all One.  Celebrate our Oneness and walk the path in peace love, and joy!

ACIM T-24.III The Forgiveness of Specialness

June 29, 2010

We get lost in our dream of specialness.  We have completely given ourselves to the dream that we are separate and special.  We have believed the dream that we are set apart from all others, denying our Oneness.  In this dream, we believe what we have made up.  We are so deep into this dream that we are oblivious to the call of peace and love that stand within us and call to us.  It is gently calling us to wake from the dream.  It calls to us, telling us of our true Oneness, of the freedom, abundance, love, and peace that are already ours, waiting for us to remember them.

We think we are tormented.  We believe the dream we made up about ourselves, and also believe that God would take that away from us, making us less.  But nothing can compare to the goodness and wholeness God gives us.  All that is God is ours in Oneness.  We share all there is with God and each other in Oneness.  Is our dream of specialness worth the denial of what God gave us in our creation?  We are God extended.  We are never separate from God.  Yet we cling to the dream of our specialness, effectively shutting ourselves off from the awareness of our true Oneness.

We think our dream of specialness is freedom.  Yet the dream only limits us.  It cannot compare with the grandeur of God’s Will for us.  We have become slaves to our dream of specialness.  Yet we can still be free.  Be willing to open your eyes just a little.  See your brother, your sister, your Savior looking back.  See in their eyes the reflection of who you really are.  And recognize who they really are.  We are all One with God, full of the wondrous love that is God, whole, loved, and at peace.  It is our birthright.  When will we be willing to grant that birthright to ourselves and each other and let go of the dream of specialness we made up?  It is the simple act of forgiving our thoughts of specialness.

God’s Will is for us to set each other free.  Freedom is the release from the chains of our dreams of specialness.  Wake up, open your eyes, and see.  Open your ears and hear.  The grandeur of the realm of God is all around us.  It is already ours.  Reach out and take the hand of your sister, your brother, your Savior and set all of creation free.
